 October is Pedestrian Safety Month!

We are proud to announce that Sgt. Valdes received the official proclamation from Mayor Harvey Ward, declaring October as Pedestrian Safety Month in Gainesville.

This is a vital initiative as Gainesville accounts for 80% of Alachua County's pedestrian and bicyclist crashes, with our county ranking 18th in the state for serious injuries and fatalities involving pedestrians.

The Gainesville Police Department is committed to improving traffic safety as part of the city's Vision Zero Action Plan, the state's Target Zero Plan, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) Action Plan.

Throughout October, we’ll be focusing on enhanced efforts to protect pedestrians, and we encourage everyone—drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike—to stay alert and prioritize safety on our roads.
Let’s continue to work together to make Gainesville safer for all. #PedestrianSafety #VisionZero #TargetZero
